Positions

President

Initiates and presides over meetings. Oversees all group activities and assists in leadership development of membership. Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Vice President

Assumes presidential responsibilities in the absence of the president, developes and coordinates outreach activities in collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator. Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Secretary

Maintains accurate attendance and membership records and keeps minutes. Sends emails on behalf of the organization and keeps and up to date mailing list of the members. Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Treasurer

Maintains and manages finances and keeps accurate financial records. Prepares and Implements chapter budget and provides a quarterly update on the chapters budget. Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Industry Liaison

Primary contact with Industry: Requests funding from Industry to sponsor Chapter activities (lecture series, Q&A panels with industry personnel, etc.). In charged of inviting scientists from Industry to give talks. Hosts Industry speaker and hosts the speaker in collaboration with another member of the board (cannot be the same member every time, unless no one else volunteers). Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Academic Liaison

Primary contact with Academia: Invite speakers from Academia and hosts the speaker in collaboration with another member of the board (cannot be the same member every time, unless no one else volunteers). Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Outreach Coordinator

Outreach coordinator utilizes his or her public relations skills to promote awareness, find volunteers, and organize events that benefit OCDC. He or she works directly with members of the community to educate people and explain the importance of a particular cause. The coordinator will organize outreach activities on behalf of OCDC to promote other individuals to pursue careers in the STEM fields. A community outreach coordinator may also set up fundraiser events to encourage the public to support an organization. He or she may schedule a raffle drawing, golf tournament, family picnic, or another activity where people can enjoy themselves while helping out an important cause. It is important for a coordinator to be creative and determined when setting up fundraisers to make sure they will be successful. Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Historian

Keep a record of OCDC’s accomplishments and activities for the year. Collect items such as pictures and news clippings about the club and its members. Organize a scrapbook to tell the club’s story for the year. Make newsletter that is meaningful to members and future members.

Make the newsletter compact but complete by including items only if they involve OCDC’s directly or members of the club. Works in collaboration with webmaster to update webpage and social media and keep members updated. Regularly attending (in person or via distance communication methods) officer and general membership meetings.

Webmaster

Maintaining and updating information related to OCDC events and activities on OCDC website and social media. Helping to electronically broadcast/archive OCDC general membership meetings. Working with postdoc, graduate and undergraduate representatives, using web-based and electronic resources, to promote OCDC events, membership, and participation.

Organizing and facilitating remote (web-based) access to OCDC elections, polls, ballots, meetings, and other events. Ensuring that OCDC’s web-based resources meet accessibility standards for people with disabilities.

Post-Doc Representative

Advertise OCDC’s events amongst the Post Doc community in both Chemistry and Biochemistry and work towards increasing OCDC membership and participation of current members.

Graduate Representative

Advertise OCDC’s events amongst the graduate student community in both Chemistry and Biochemistry and work towards increasing OCDC membership and participation of current members.

Undergraduate Representative

Advertise OCDC’s events amongst the undergraduate student community in both Chemistry and Biochemistry and work towards increasing OCDC membership and participation of current members.
